Doing PR from Anywhere
Recently I had a new business contact tell me they needed a PR professional in a certain city because they wanted someone on the ground and who had “city expertise.” While I completely understand the need for “what’s this city all about” type knowledge that only a local can provide, PR is truly one of those jobs where you can do it from anywhere with enough experience, know-how and tools.
These are two of the main reasons why I think Red Jeweled Media’s network set-up works so well in this day in age.
We are located in different cities. This works out great when you need to talk to someone in Denver or Chicago or elsewhere. While now we are only in about six cities now, we all know people across the country from our former “big PR agency” days and our network is growing. It’s as easy as picking up the phone, sending a quick email or instant messaging.
We are experienced. Everyone in the RJM network is an experienced PR/marketing pro who can hit the ground running. Since most of us learned at larger agencies or at least have relevant work experience, we are able to trust that any teammate can get the work done. And if they do have questions or need assistance – then they call a network brainstorm or meeting – that’s what we are all here for…. to function as a team when needed, but to act on our own (keeping rates down!). So if I work on a project in San Antonio for instance (which I do!), I just make sure I do the best research I can and ask around if I need any assistance or guidance.
With so much work taking place online today, the advances in video chat and the ease of travel I believe it’s much more about finding someone you want to work with who is passionate about what your company does. If they’re smart they will only take a job they know they can handle, they’ll get the job done WELL, and hey – usually things aren’t more than a plane ride away if needed anyway.
