Word of Mouth Marketing & PR: Want Moms to Talk About Your Company?

Stacy DeBroff from Mom Central Consulting said it right when she said at the Marketing to Moms (M2Moms) Conference last month, "Moms don't tell their friends about your brand because they love your brand; they tell their friends about your brand because they love their friends."
Savvy brands know that they should embark carefully on a word of mouth marketing campaign that involves customers becoming brand evangelists. They should recognize that moms aren't here to help a company promote their business and make more money; rather, they are here to help their friends feel fulfilled and satisfied like they feel fullfilled and satisfied.
If your company is looking to get moms to talk about you and refer your product to their friends, here are some things you should consider:
First, you need to start treating your current customers right. Nurture them, engage them and let them get to know your brand beyond a superficial level. You might do this through videos, blogging and a vibrant social media community that doesn't just push your products, but engages moms with exciting content, polls, contests, etc.
Second, you need to invite moms to share information. Today's moms are tweeting their births and sharing pictures of their babies instantly with family. Encourage them to share their experiences with your brand in a fun and exciting way too by making it easy for them to submit testimonials, photos or stories directly to your website.
Third, give moms an incentive to share. Very few moms will provide unprompted information just because they feel like it. Invite your community to share coupons, pictures and sweepstakes with their friends - and incentivize them to do so too by rewarding them.
Forth, make sharing easy. Don't complicate it! Sharing should be as easy as forwarding something to a friend or by clicking the "share" button on a blog, Facebook or Twitter site. Keep it simple, stupid (KISS)!
Give mom a reason to share your brand with her friends and she just might - good luck!
